Reflection
Comparing my first and most recent APTA Core Values Self-Assessments has shown me how much I have grown throughout the DPT program. Early on, I identified communication, advocacy, and leadership as areas that needed improvement. I recognized that these skills are closely connected and are essential for patient care and collaboration.
Through my clinical experiences, I have become more confident in building rapport, communicating effectively, and providing patient-centered care. I feel that compassion, accountability, and integrity are now some of my strengths. I strive to act in my patients’ best interests while using evidence-based practice and staying open to feedback.
I still have areas for growth. I sometimes overexplain information to patients and want to become more concise and efficient in my communication. I also hope to become more involved in community outreach, advocacy, and professional organizations.
